Misha’s Bio and Resume

Self taught in sculpture, I have been creating unique figures for over thirty years. Recognized for my incredibly realistic sculptures of Native Americans worldwide, I continue to create breathtaking faces with haunting eyes and fascinating faces. Returning to New Mexico in 1997, my work has changed, inspired by our diverse cultures. Embracing both my Hispanic and Anglo roots, I continue to create sculptures that are undeniably from our beautiful state. Thunderbird Artists of Arizona presented me with the 2003 Mark Wroe Award of Excellence in Art for my design and creative artwork. I was the recipient of the 1993 Collector’s Communication Award of Excellence in recognition for my Native American sculpture of Sacajawea. My sculptures have been featured in books and on national magazine covers. Articles about my sculptures have been included in Southwest Art, Ruidoso Lifestyles, Gateway Magazine, and I was the featured artist in Wild West Magazine, February 2000. The September 2003 issue of New Mexico Magazine featured “Storyteller” sculpture in their art section. The July 2008 issue of Ruidoso magazine featured the latest body of work that I created, including contemporary figures in clay. A segment of HGTV Artists Coast to Coast was devoted to my work and filmed me as I sculpted and completed a figure in clay.

The Hubbard Museum of the American West awarded “Best Artist “in 1998 and has included my work in many of their exhibits and shows. Work has also been displayed at the Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, New Hampshire and The Wenham Museum in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1995 I was invited to create special ornaments to decorate the White House Christmas tree. My unique sculptures are now included in the Permanent Collection of American Artists in Washington DC.
